The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is an integral part of the School of Medicine and the Graduate School at KU Medical Center. Lectures and laboratory experiences are offered for students pursuing M.S., Ph.D., and M.D./Ph.D. degrees. Postdoctoral research scientists and visiting faculty members also contribute to the departmental activities.

Medical Student Voice Awards:

  • Dr. Chad Slawson for the Outstanding M2 Lecturer award

  • Dr. Joseph Fontes for the M1 “The ACE” award

  • Dr. Joseph Fontes for the M2 Above and Beyond award. Recognition of the award winners below will occur at the 24th annual A Grand Affair on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

2021 Student Research Forum winners:

  • Mandeep Kaur made the final round of the 3-minute thesis competition.

  • Benjamin Ryan placed first in his section for Oral Presentations. 

  • Max Fairlamb had the Best Overall Poster. 

  • Nicole Hoitsma won the Joe Kimmel Award for excellence in biomedical research.
